The Lawton Family Connection

Ronald James Bowers was married to Mary Olive Hill in 1945, at St Lawrence Church, Biddulph. He was the son of James Bowers and Hannah Lawton.

His mother Hannah (nee Lawton) was born in 1902 and came from 5 Brook Street, Brown Lees. Her father was a Charles Lawton. It looks as if the Lawton family lived in Brown Lees, in the area of Brook Street, or in Brown Lees Road, which was also known as Dirty Lane. Why ?, it was because, when the men came home from the Robert Heath Iron works, they never washed - they were dirty.

Charles T. Lawton ( Great Grandad ) who later married Catherine Bibby, was born in Wigan, Lancashire. This is where it becomes vauge......... I can't seem to find his father in any of the census, but on the wedding certificate there is a Richard Lawton. I'll keep looking.......
